I am fascinated with big open spaces, light and movement and love the physical act of interpreting these in paint. Taking initial inspiration from the outside, I start with what’s real, but then make it my own. Working mainly in oils, the subject is discovered through the process of painting - layering, stripping back and layering again using brushes, hands and rags until the form is there. My present and ongoing work is derived from me walking and sitting on my nearby beach, trying to capture the movement and changes in weather, atmosphere and light as the year progresses.
